Another example of contemporary Greek dramaturgy was presented at the Poreia Theater, as part of the “New Blood” Festival. It is the brand-new play with the peculiar title What Will Your Mother Say When She Sees Your Corpse, which emerged from the School for Igniting Playwriting and is penned by Argyro Vovou.
Death is on strike, and the earth has filled with… pending corpses. Sanna is eager to die; she has tried every possible method of suicide, but all have failed, leaving her with a grand-guignol “corpse.” On the platform of a train station, Miky tells her about a portal in space-time that could take her back to the night of her conception. Will Sanna manage to enter this hole to prevent her own conception and erase her existence? Or will the end of the strike catch up with her first?
The answer lies hidden in this surreal play dripping with black humor, ultimately resolved in an existential poignancy.
